Wildlife and Nature Photographer
Kia ora, my name is Josh Overend and I am a wildlife and nature photographer from Christchurch, New Zealand. Since I was little, I have always been fascinated by wildlife. When others were focused on superheroes and playing PlayStation, I was fixated on animals, inspired by my heroes Steve Irwin, Sir David Attenborough and Forrest Galante. I never grew out of this phase and this has lead to me pursuing the art of photography.

My Goal
I aspire to promote awareness around many of Aotearoa’s endemic, native and non-native species. Photography provides me with a medium to not only shine light on some of the amazing species that call New Zealand home, but also promote others to learn about and conserve our wildlife as they are faced with many threats. If I can help someone learn about the Tītitipounamu (Rifleman), New Zealand’s smallest bird, or inspire someone to think twice before driving their four-wheel drive up a braided river potentially harming one of the 26 species of native birds that nest in these ecosystems, I would call that a win.
