Wildlife and Nature Photographer
Kia ora, my name is Josh Overend, and I am a wildlife and nature photographer based in Christchurch, New Zealand. From a young age, I have been captivated by the natural world. While many of my peers were drawn to superheroes and video games, my attention was firmly fixed on wildlife, inspired by the work of icons such as Steve Irwin, Sir David Attenborough, and Forrest Galante. This enduring passion has naturally evolved into a career in photography, allowing me to combine my love for animals with the art of visual storytelling.

My Goal
I am deeply passionate about celebrating and protecting Aotearoa’s incredible wildlife. Photography is my way of telling their stories, bringing attention to the beauty and fragility of the species that call New Zealand home. Every image is an invitation to learn, to care, and to act. Our native wildlife faces mounting threats, and I believe awareness is the first step toward change. If I can spark someone's curiosity about the Tītitipounamu (Rifleman)—our tiniest and one of our most extraordinary birds—or make someone think twice before driving a four-wheel drive through a braided riverbed, home to 26 nesting bird species, then I know I’m making a difference. Every connection made is a small victory for conservation.
